Two lopsided wins for Tritons
ESTHERVILLE – The Iowa Central softball team crushed five home runs in a clean sweep of Iowa Lakes here Wednesday.
Scores were 9-4 and 18-0.
Nicole Dobernecker had a home run in each game, while Sammie Hildreth belted two in the nightcap. Taylor Barnett hit the fifth homer for the Tritons (28-9 overall, 9-3 in ICCAC).
Hildreth finished the doubleheader 5-for-7 with four runs scored and eight RBI. Dobernecker had six RBI and Emilee Dorpinghaus collected four hits, five runs and three steals.
“It was good to see us come out, hit the ball well and finish the sweep after a pair of tough splits,” ICCC head coach Josh Sandin said. “We let up a little in the first after getting a lead, but we didn’t in the second.”
Dobernecker’s shot in the opener was a grand slam, while Hildreth’s was a three-run homer – both of which came in the second inning.
“After that, it was all over,” Sandin said. “It was a fun day at the park.
“We talked about building momentum with 20 games left and the girls did that (Wednesday).”
Allie Ingalls tossed a four-hitter in the first game, striking otu four. Carmen Rivera finished four innings of one-hit ball in the second before Bailey Barnett came on to finish things off.
Barnett went 5-for-7 with five runs and five RBI out of the No. 9 slot in the batting order for the Tritons, who return to action Saturday at Rogers Park against Southwestern weather permitting.
