Tritons split in softball
DES MOINES – The Iowa Central softball team split a doubleheader against Div. I foe Indian Hills on Monday.
After dropping a 4-3 decision in their opener, the Tritons (26-9 overall) rebounded with a 4-3 victory of their own in the second game.
Haley Rustvold (Fort Dodge) went 3-for-3 offensively for Iowa Central in the first contest, while Emilee Dorpinghaus and Sammie Hildreth each added two hits. Hildreth homered twice, drove in three and scored a pair of runs.
Allie Ingalls (North Union) took the loss, allowing six hits and three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings.
“We didn’t make enough plays in the first game to win it,” said ICCC head coach Josh Sandin. “Allie threw the ball well enough to win, and it was good to see Hildreth hit two home runs, but we made three costly errors down the stretch.”
In the second contest, the Tritons received a longball from Nicole Dobernecker – her 13th of the season. Dorpinghaus, Chelsy Krantz (Fort Dodge) and Rustvold all contributed singles. Iowa Central never trailed after plating three scores in the first two frames.
Carmen Rivera went the distance in the victory, scattering eight hits, three earned runs, three walks and one strikeout.
“I just can’t say enough about how much Carmen has come along in the last two weeks,” Sandin said. “We kind of took advantage of their mistakes in Game 2.
“It’s a good day anytime you can beat Indian Hills. This will give us even more momentum.”
Next outing for the Tritons is Wednesday at Iowa Lakes. First pitch for the ICCAC matchup is set for 3 p.m. in Estherville.
