Bonny Nelson, 80, of Fort Dodge, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

A service honoring Bonny’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Erling Shultz officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Bonny is survived by her daughters, Charlene (Dana) Wolfe, Sharon Neavin (Mike Ryder); and daughter in-law Sue Nelson; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean, two sons, Mike and Jim, a brother and a grandson Keith.

Bonita Lou (Bonny) Nelson, the daughter of Sam and Edna (Johnson) Shipman, was born September 2, 1933, in Storm Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1952. Bonny was employed as a nurse’s aide at Lutheran Hospital and then in the lunch service with Fort Dodge Schools for ten years, retiring in 1972.

Bonny was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She enjoyed camping, knitting, crochet, playing cards and fishing. Bonny especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and was known for her chocolate cake.
