LAKE CITY – Roene (Stewart) Hiler, age 84, went to Heaven on Monday, March 31, 2014, after a near 20-year battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City, preceded by a visitation at 10:00 AM. She donated her body for research to the University of Iowa, so there will be no viewing.

Roene Fae Hiler was born on July 30, 1929 in Audubon County to Samuel and Mabel (Oakley) Stewart. On September 5, 1946 she was married to Marvin Hiler in Humboldt, Iowa.

Roene is survived by her daughters, Mary (Robert) Hadsall of Ankeny, Iowa, Marva (Rob) Sosh of Herber Springs, Arkansas, and Roxanne Payne of Ames, Iowa, son Richard Hiler of Ames, Iowa, 4 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Ruby (Marvin) Byriel of Audubon, Iowa and Martha (Luke) Dawson of Warner Robins, Georgia, and sisters-in-law Maxine Stewart of Auburn, Iowa and Delores Stewart of Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin in 1983, brothers John (Jack), Willard, and Robert and sister-in-law Donna Stewart.
