Cornbelt Chorus sings Saturday

To the editor:

I would like to make the people of Humboldt and surrounding areas aware of a new event that will take place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Cornbelt Chorus based out of Algona will hold a spring show at the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium, located in the Humboldt High School.

Although the chorus is based in Algona, we also have members from the Humboldt, Pocahontas and Emmetsburg areas. We are a 40-plus all-male, a cappella chorus. We are members of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The Cornbelt Chorus was founded in 1960, this being our 54th year.

People tend to think of straw hats and striped suits when they hear “barbershop music,” but it isn’t that way anymore. We will have a fun-filled show with humor and quality singing.

Our guest quartet “Three Men and a Melody,” of Kansas City, are worth the price of admission alone. They are a truly talented group that will make you laugh and their harmony will make your heart smile.

This is the same quartet that worked with the high school students during the Youth In Harmony event in February. So kids, be sure to come back and hear “Three Men and a Melody” perform their whole show.

The Cornbelt Chorus is a nonprofit group. This year we have already performed three shows, two in Algona and one in Emmetsburg. Algona, Algona Bishop Garrigan, Humboldt and Emmetsburg schools will each receive a $200 donation to their school’s music program.

Please come and support this new venture in Humboldt. You will be glad you did.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door, and $5 for school age. Tickets are available from any chorus member, Sweetest Things Bakery, downtown Humboldt, or call Greg Miller at 332-5103.
