Smith, Mericle win for Dodger girls

WAVERLY – The Fort Dodge girls track team competed at the Waverly-Shell Rock Invitational Tuesday night.

Shariah Smith (100, 12.98), Tiana Mericle (200, 27.69) and the 4×100 (Smith, Lexi Wilcox, Lexi Astor and Mericle, 53.09) all picked up victories for the Dodgers.

Placing second for FDSH was Astor (long jump, 15-7.5), Justice Crooks (400 hurdles, 1:16.37), Sabrynn Ulrich (400, 1:09.41), the 4×200 (Smith, Wilcox, Astor and Mericle, 1:53.37) and the distance medley (Wilcox, Carson Jarrard, Stephanie Ferguson and Becca Sunken, 5:08.61). Sunken also placed third in the 1500 (6:01.96).

“It was cold out, but we ran a good meet for our first time outdoors,” said Fort Dodge head coach Todd Constable. “We expect our times to get better throughout the year.”

Next outing for the Dodgers is Thursday at the Boone Invitational. Start time is set for 4:30 p.m.
