Triton softball wins twice

The Iowa Central softball team picked up a conference sweep over North Iowa Area at Rogers Park Tuesday.

Scores were 9-5 and 9-0.

Originally, the ICCAC doubleheader was scheduled for Mason City. However, due to recent inclement weather, it was switched.

“I just want to give credit to Jim Winter for getting the field ready on short notice,” ICCC head coach Josh Sandin said. “He is a magician and we would not have played if not for him.”

The Tritons (22-7 overall, 4-2 in league) hit five home runs on the day, including a pair of three-run shots in the nightcap from Nicole Dobernecker and Allie Ingalls.

“Surprisingly, we hit more homers (Tuesday) than we did Sunday when the wind was blowing out,” Sandin said. “Nicole’s homer was a crushing shot, as it was opposite field over the bleachers.

“It was really big because it got us going.”

Emilee Dorpinghaus and Sammie Hildreth each hit homers in the opener, while McCoy added one in game two.

Ingalls and Carmen Rivera each earned victories inside the circle. Rivera allowed just two hits and recorded three strikeouts, walking two.

“Carmen just threw awesome,” Sandin said. “We talked about coming out and getting a sweep because game two has been a thorn in our side this year.

“We did exactly what we needed to do, which was come out and score a lot of runs.”

Dobernecker drove in four runs, while Dorpinghaus had four hits and three steals on the day.

The Tritons have won six of their last eight. They host league foe Ellsworth today, beginning at 3 p.m., weather permitting.
