Give children a chance

To the editor:

Our children deserve a chance at a bright future and it begins with creating a community that invests in their safety and well-being.

This April, Webster County Family Development Council is participating in National Child Abuse Prevention Month to increase awareness that child abuse is preventable and that we all play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in our community.

Webster County Family Development Council will celebrate the month with a “BLUE OUT” day at the elementary schools on Friday. On this day pinwheels and chalk drawings will adorn the sidewalks and front of all five public elementary buildings and central office. Blue pinwheels have been coined a symbol of the joyful, carefree childhood every child deserves. On April 23, the Council will sponsor a baby shower for the Upper Des Moines Opportunities “baby room” with information on both UDMO and WCFDC. The public is invited to attend from 4 to 6 p.m.

Preventing child abuse is truly a community effort. By offering services that educate and support parents, Family Development Council helps ensure that children in Webster County and surrounding areas grow up safe, nurtured and able to reach their full potential. With everyone’s participation, we can become a community that reaches out to all families in need before a crisis occurs.
