Helen Halvorson Hjermstad, 80, passed away on March 17, 2014, at Park Ridge Nursing Center in Jacksonville, FL.

Helen was born in Galesburg ND, graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School (Fargo, ND) in 1951, and went on to earn a BA in Education from Augsburg College (Minneapolis, MN) in 1955.

Helen’s career spanned from teaching to social work to small business owner (Beltone Hearing Aids in Fort Dodge, IA); all focusing on human services and helping others. Helen loved music, directed choirs, and sang in several groups including Sweet Adelines.

Helen was predeceased by her son Steven Hjermstad, and her second husband Clayton Claude (Goldfield, IA).

Helen is survived by her first husband Stanley Hjermstad; three children, Kamlyn Hjermstad Hipkins and her husband Mark, Mitchell Hjermstad, and Kayla Ginakes and her husband John; grandchildren Miranda Hipkins, Kirsten Hipkins and Peyton Ginakes; great-grandchild Elijah Hipkins; brother Arvin Halvorson and his wife Twila; her niece and nephews, and the rest of her family and friends.

A private memorial and burial will be held in South Dakota at a time yet to be determined. The family of Helen Hjermstad wishes to thank Heartland Hospice and Park Ridge Nursing Center.
