Mom of rescued boys reports burglary
The mother of two boys who were rescued from the Des Moines River last week has reported a burglary to her home.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, Fort Dodge Police Officer Dennis Quinn was dispatched to 217 Second St. N.W. to investigate a household burglary.
Barbara Crawford, 39, said that while she and her sons were out of town, someone entered their home and took several items.
In a prepared statement referring to the boys’ rescue, Fort Dodge Police Chief Tim Carmody said, “During and since that critical incident we were so thankful for the safe rescue of the boys for their second chance. It is disturbingly disappointing, if not disgusting, that the perpetrators of this burglary would victimize Ms. Crawford and her family at a time like this.
“As with every victim we serve, we will do everything in our power to follow up on the investigation and available evidence. Our Criminal Investigation Division is coordinating with our Patrol Division to follow up on this case. We are confident that there are community-minded citizens that have information about this incident.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fort Dodge Police Department at the above numbers. Crime Stoppers can also be contacted anonymously by calling 573-1444 (STOP), online at www.wccrimestoppers.com or by texting “LEC” and the tip to CRIMES (274637).
