St. Ed closed for the week after main break

St. Edmond Catholic School will be closed for the remainder of the week following a water main break Monday.

The break occurred in the school’s kitchen Monday morning. As water spread into the elementary school cafeteria and adjacent corridors, students were sent home at noon Monday.

Due to the location of the break, the decision was made to cancel school for the week to facilitate the required repairs, said Mary Gibb, St. Edmond president.

According to Gibb, details on the extent and scope of the required repairs are not yet available.

In an email to St. Edmond students and families, Gibb said that a decision has yet to be made as to how the missed class time will be made up.

“We are currently consulting with the state Department of Public Education as how to proceed with our current calendar,” said Gibb.

The third quarter will end Friday as planned, Gibb said.

The myriad of school activities scheduled for the week will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, said Mary Lynn Biggins, St. Edmond director of marketing and public information.

Biggins said that some activities will likely be relocated to other sites within Holy Trinity Parish.
