Iowa Central baseball squad sweeps
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. – The Iowa Central baseball team claimed a pair of victories over Rose State on Monday.
The Tritons (11-6 overall) prevailed by scores of 7-5 and 12-9.
Will Gormally (Fort Dodge) anchored Iowa Central’s offensive attack in Game 1 with three hits, two RBI and a run scored. Andy DeJesus and Nate Steger each added two hits for the Tritons. DeJesus also drove in two.
Starter Alex Hayden recorded the win on the mound, scattering five hits and three earned runs over five innings.
In the second contest, Iowa Central’s Noah Pickard was 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Tanner Buenting, DeJesus and Damian Rutherford all chipped in a pair of hits.
Buenting tallied three RBI, and Steger crossed the dish three times.
Tyler Vaughn (Fort Dodge) posted the win in relief, surrendering three hits and two earned runs over 3 1/3 innings. Iowa Hawkeye recruit Luke Vandermaten (Fort Dodge) notched saves in both games.
The Tritons committed just one error on the day compared to seven for Rose State.
“We played two good games,” said ICCC head coach Rick Pederson. “I was very proud of how we grinded things out.”
Next action for Iowa Central is Saturday when they welcome 16th-ranked (NJCAA Div. II) Des Moines Area for their home opener. First pitch, weather permitting, is set for noon.
