Triton softball team sweeps
COCOA BEACH, Fla. – The Iowa Central softball team opened their spring break trip here with a sweep of Kellogg Friday.
Scores were 12-2 in six innings and 12-8.
Nicole Dobernecker blasted two home runs for the Tritons (12-1 overall) while driving in two runs in the opener.
“Both of Nicole’s homers came at the most opportune time for us,” ICCC head coach Josh Sandin said. “They were no-doubt homers, too.”
Emilee Dorpinghaus was 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Kenzie Shelgren collected two hits and three RBI.
In the second game, Chelsy Krantz had two hits and Dorpinghaus drove in two.
“I was very pleased, especially considering this was our first time playing outside,” Sandin said. “Nicole, Emilee and and Taylor (Barnett) all had great games at the plate.”
Iowa Central returns to action today against Lincoln Land and Gloucester.
