St. Edmond competes in speech contest
St. Edmond Catholic School sent nine students to compete in the Iowa High School Speech Association’s Individual Speech Contest.
The district contest was hosted by Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona on March 1. The students competed in 13 events.
Students who received a II (good) rating were: Kaley Feser, acting; Isolda Gonzalez, solo improvisation and solo musical theater; Zephan O’Connor, spontaneous speaking; Ashley Salter, prose and solo musical theater; Max Wallace, storytelling.
Students who received a I (superior) rating were: Sarah Benjamin, acting; Jacob Duarte, solo improvisation and radio news announcing; Maggie Fitzgerald, poetry; Rachel Sherry, literary program and solo musical theater.
These students will advance to the state contest held at Sioux City East High School on Saturday. Speech students are coached by Susan Helling and Adam Liker.
