Football schedules released

The 2014 and 2015 prep football schedules were released Friday morning by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

Week 1 of the upcoming season is set for Aug. 29. Fort Dodge will travel to Sioux City West, while St. Edmond welcomes Bishop Garrigan.

There are no Week 0 games this year, and the regular season ends on Oct. 24.

The rest of the schedule for the Dodgers includes another return trip to Sioux City the following Friday, as they take on North Sept. 4.

Fort Dodge’s first home game inside Dodger Stadium will be Sept. 12 against Waterloo West. FDSH also hosts Waterloo East Sept. 19.

The annual Decker Sporting Goods rivalry game between the Dodgers and Mason City is set for Sept. 26.

Fort Dodge’s other home games are Indianola (Oct. 3) and Waukee (Oct. 17). The remaining road games include Marshalltown (Oct. 10) and Urbandale (Oct. 24).

The Dodgers are in Class 4A, District 4 this year with Indianola, Marshalltown, Mason City, Urbandale and Waukee. They went 3-6 a season ago.

Waukee posted a 10-2 record last season, while Urbandale was 8-3. Indianola went 6-4.

Sioux City North (4-6), Waterloo West (4-6), Sioux City West (2-8), Mason City (2-8), Marshalltown (1-8) and Waterloo East (0-9) all had marks below .500.

For the Gaels, who are in 1A, District 7, they will host Mason City Newman in Week 2 before hitting the road for a contest with Manson Northwest Webster.

Last year, St. Edmond knocked the Cougars out of the playoffs on their way to a state runner-up finish. They finished 13-1.

Other home dates for the Gaels include South Central Calhoun (Sept. 26), Ogden (Oct. 10) and South Hamilton (Oct. 24). Road games for SEHS are Woodward Academy (Sept. 19), Madrid (Oct. 3) and Prairie Valley (Oct. 17).

Ogden went 10-2 a year ago, while Madrid and Manson NW were each 8-3. Prairie Valley and South Hamilton went 6-4, South Central Calhoun was 5-5.

Only Mason City Newman (4-6) and Woodward Academy (1-8) had losing records.
