BOONE – Julie Oberg Messerly, 44, of Boone and formerly of Fort Dodge, died March 2, 2014, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, March 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. Following the service, Julie will be cremated.

Julie Ann Messerly was born in Fort Dodge on August 18, 1969, the daughter of Kent and Jacquelynn (Young) Oberg. She grew up in Fort Dodge and graduated from Saint Edmond High School in 1987. Julie also graduated from DMACC in Boone with an LPN nursing degree. Julie married Darwin Messerly in Boone. She worked as an LPN at Hearthstone Memory Care Unit at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone from 2000 to 2006.

Julie is preceded in death by her mother and her daughter Samantha Ann. She is survived by her husband Darwin of Boone; a son Brandon Messerly of Des Moines; three daughters Amanda (Sean) Patterson, Rebecca Messerly, and Caitlynn Messerly, all of Boone; her father and stepmother Kent and Danuta Oberg of Fort Dodge; mother-in-law Kathy Gobeli of Fort Dodge; two brothers Patrick (Connie) Oberg and Dan Oberg, both of Fort Dodge; sister Kelly Oberg of La Jolla, California, and step sister Adriana Utley of Fort Dodge; and two grandchildren Tauri and Brady Patterson, both of Boone.

Friends may call on Thursday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone from 2 to 5 p.m. and then at the Church from 6 to 8 p.m. where a Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Visitation continues Friday at the funeral chapel from 8 to 10 a.m.
