Humboldt boys play for state berth
AMES – The Humboldt boys will look to advance to the state tournament for the seventh time in school history tonight.
The Wildcats (15-7 overall) will face Carroll (18-4) in a Class 3A substate final.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Ames.
Humboldt’s last state tournament apperance was in 2002.
The Wildcats are coming off a 63-43 victory over Gilbert in the substate semifinal.
Jaxon Heinz paces the Wildcats with 17.5 points per contest. Heinz has hit 44 three-pointers on 99 attempts.
Senior Jack Curran is averaging 11.2 points a contest and junior Brady Ross averages 11.1.
Austin Zylstra (9.3) and Nick Heider (7.7) are also key scorers.
Carroll enters the contest with three players averaging over 14 points per contest.
Senior Cody Netusil paces Carroll at 16.5 points per game.
Juniors Eli Cleveland and Addison Ross are averaging 14.0 points a night.
Cleveland has hit 28 three pointers and Ross has 18 makes from three.
