Lewis, Allen second at nationals

SPOKANE, Wash. – Iowa Central didn’t crown a champion in Saturday’s NJCAA national tournament finals, but head coach Luke Moffitt is happy about one thing.

Eight of the nine national qualifiers will return next season.

The lone graduating qualifier is 285-pound runner up Malcolm Allen.

Allen, who is ranked sixth, lost to top-ranked Dequence Goodman of Lincoln College in the championship round.

It was a tight match, but Goodman ended up earning a 4-3 decision for the title.

Allen advanced to the finals three decisions and finished the season 30-8 and his only loss to a junior college wrestler was to Goodman.

Iowa Central freshman Richie Lewis (157), who is unranked dropped a 7-3 decision to third-ranked Yoanse Mejias of North Iowa.

Lewis finishes his freshman season with a 20-6 mark.

On his way to the finals he beat No. 8 Kyle Wade of Nassau and No. 11 Connor Kriss of Colby.

Darrell Pampkin (133) finished seven for the Tritons and Ryan Niven (165) was eighth.

Returning next year as national qualifiers will be St.?Edmond graduate Teddie Harvey (141), Clarion-Goldfield graduate Marcus Peterson (149), Nate Smith (125), Jake Meehan (174) and Bryce Fisher (197).
