Trott proceedings suspended

The man accused of first-degree murder in the death of a Rockwell City police officer will undergo a psychiatric competency evaluation to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.

Corey Trott is accused of killing Rockwell City Police Officer Jamie Buenting on Sept. 13, 2013.

District Court Judge Thomas Bice issued the ruling Tuesday.

“In the event the defendant is found to be incompetent, restoration to competancy will be performed,” Bice wrote in his decision. “Upon conclusion of the restoration treatment, the defendant will be evaluated for competency.”

The trial, which had been scheduled for April 21 in Wright County, has been suspended until more information about Trott’s mental state is known.
