SOMERS – Roger D. Brand, 78, went to be with the Lord Sunday, February 23, 2014 after a brief stay at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, Somers with Rev. Nathan Nielson and Rev. Dr. James H. Chesnutt officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday (Today) at the United Methodist Church, Somers. Palmer-Swank Funeral Home of Rockwell City is serving the family.

Roger is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Tammy (Nathan) Nielson of Kennesaw, GA; Terri Brand of Lincoln, NE; sons, Rick (Maureen) Brand of Somers; Curtis (Renita) Brand of Urbandale; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Eunice Brand of Farnhamville; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Ora (Lotspeich) Brand; brother, Richard Brand; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Elbert Gallentine.

Roger D. Brand was born January 29, 1936 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Somers High School in 1954. He attended Iowa State University in Ames. Roger was united in marriage to Donna Dey on July 28, 1957 in Somers. He farmed his whole life in the Somers area. Roger was a lifelong member of Somers United Methodist Church.

Roger loved spending time outdoors with his family, loved farming, and anything that had to do with farming. He also enjoyed volunteering in the community but mostly, attending any events where his children and grandchildren were involved.
