Tritons dominate Region XI indoor track meet
STORM LAKE – The Iowa Central men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams both took home top honors once again from the Region XI Championships held at Buena Vista University this past weekend.
The Triton women easily prevailed with 343 points, followed by Iowa Western (122).
Aden Alemu (1000m), Elizabeth Dadzie (high jump, pentathlon), Kennedi Simon (shot put) and Salina Johnson (weight throw) all qualified for nationals for Iowa Central. Simon and Jacqueline Salinas (weight throw) set new school marks, while Destiny Carter (long jump, 60M) and the 4×400 relay established new Region XI meet records.
On the men’s side, Iowa Central tallied 287 points. Iowa Western (226) was next in line.
Frankline Tonui (5k), Isaac Lalang (5k), Jerry Westerfield (long jump), Josh Prohaska (600m) and the 4×800 relay (Prohaska, Kyle Hosting, Dylan Eigenberger and Dean Cronin) each advanced to nationals.
Darrius Brown (pole vault) set a new program mark, while Allen Davis (shot put), Chris Caldwell (60HH) and the 4×800 all managed new Region XI meet records.
A total of 24 men and 23 women have now moved on to nationals this year in individual events. The NJCAA Indoor Championships are set for Friday, March 7 in New York.
