William “Bill” Best, 84, of Fort Dodge passed away on Monday February 17, 2014 at his home. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday February 21, 2014 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor John Sersland officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Olaf Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

William was born in Glidden, IA on January 7, 1930 to John and Louise (Hein) Best. He grew up and graduated from Glidden High School. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was united in marriage to Audrey Cagley on January 7, 1958 in Glidden, IA. Bill worked for Fort Dodge Animal Health for 40 years as an animal care taker. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He loved spending time with his family and reading to his grandchildren. He also enjoyed dancing, gardening, fishing and going to flee markets.

Bill is survived by his wife Audrey; children Kathy Austin, John Best and Toni (Rod) Taylor; his grandchildren Seth, Travis, Samantha, Jackie, Shane and Breanna; great-grandchildren Taylor, Lincoln and Peyton; his siblings Patty Addison, Aggie Reed, David (Joyce) Best, Jerry (Linda) Best, Jim (Karen) Best and Rev. Paul (Hari) Best. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Louise and his brother John Dean Best.
