GREENVILLE, N.C. – Roy “Sonny” Calvorn Snider Jr., 72, died on Friday, December 27th, 2013 at the Heart Institute in Greenville, NC. Roy is survived by his children; Brian Snider and Robin Pond, children of Mary Larson; Lindsay Cundiff, daughter of Denise Baedke; Keely Bernard, Kassandra Langenwalter, Kolton Langenwalter and Kelsey Langenwalter, children of Diane Langenwalter; his sister Carol Sue Board, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Roy C. Snider Sr. and Amelia K. Wolf, his sister Mary Jane Tuvell, and his infant son Jeremy Snider.

Roy was born on a rural road in Gowrie, Iowa on September 14th, 1941. He attended Gowrie public schooland played in the marching band writing “Roy’s Song”, a drum cadence played for many decades at the school. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1962 and was based in Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

Roy helped build an experimental aircraft, worked in management at the Fort Collins/Loveland, Co Airport, worked as an Engineer in Quality Control in the Manufacturing field and after retirement, as a driver for Federal Express.

Roy had an extraordinary sense of curiosity and innovation. He filled his life with all of his loves – aviation, inventions, women, travel, drumming, children, singing in a barbershop quartet and farming.

He was fearless in his battle with heart disease and considered it a personal victory whenever he outwitted and outlasted the various prognoses.

Roy touched all of our lives and we missed him the moment he was gone.
