Humboldt standoff ends

HUMBOLDT – A standoff in downtown Humboldt has ended with no shots fired and no injuries, according to the Iowa State Patrol. Law enforcement officials from multiple agencies gathered in downtown Humboldt at Lomitas Mexican Restaurant, 607 Sumner Ave. The street was barricaded, and people in some of the downtown businesses said they were first told to lock their doors, then later told to leave the area.

Arnuld Galvan, who said he owns the restaurant, said a man there, whom he only identified as Adolfo, was distraught this morning. It wasn’t immediately clear if Adolfo was a restaurant employee. Galvan said he left the restaurant, and by the time he returned, police told him he couldn’t enter the building. That was around 3 p.m.

In addition to the Humboldt Police Department and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, there are also personnel from the Iowa State Patrol and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office present, among others.

Messenger staff members are on the scene, and more information will be posted as it becomes available.
