Tritons pick up first win
CHANUTE, Kan. – The Iowa Central baseball team broke into the win column on Sunday.
The Tritons (1-3 overall) split a twinbill with Neosho. Iowa Central won the opener 2-1, but dropped the nightcap 3-1.
“It’s great to get the first win of the year,” said Iowa Central head coach Rick Pederson. “We can check that one off the list.
“We played them in closer games after getting beat pretty bad on Saturday. We responded well.”
In the opener Connor Johnston recorded two hits and drove in a run for the Tritons.
Fort Dodge graduate Luke Vandermaten picked up the save, pitching 1 of an inning. He gave up one hit and struck out one. Ryan Boelter earned teh victory with five strikeouts and three hits.
In the second contest, Andy DeJesus and Nate Steger had two hits each. Johnston drove in a run.
Joe Hawks suffered the loss for Iowa Central. Fort Dodge graduate Tyler Vaughn pitched two innings, giving up two hits and one earned run.
The Tritons will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 23 when theyy travel to Kansas City, Mo. to face Maple Woods.
