Tritons swept in baseball opener

CHANUTE, Kan. – The Iowa Central baseball team suffered two losses in their season opening twinbill on Saturday.

The Tritons (0-2 overall) lost to Neosho 6-0 and 12-2.

“It was a tough day, obviously losing two games,” said Iowa Central head coach Rick Pederson. “Neosho is one of the best teams (they were the Kansas state champs).

“We made a couple of mistakes late. The lack of experience hurt us. We missed a couple of opportunities early.”

In the opener a big sixth-inning by Neosho put the game out of reach.

The Tritons only managed five hits in the contest. Tanner Buenting, Christian Montero, Nate Steger, Noah Pickard and Justin Smith recorded hits.

Iowa Central did get on the scoreboard in the nightcap with a two run fifth inning.

Buenting, Andy DeJesus, Michael Kinning and Steger had hits. Steger and Connor Johnston drove in runs.

The Tritons are back in action today in a doubleheader against Neosho. Action begins at 1 p.m.
