AUBURN – Martin Erickson, 87, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at his home in Auburn. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn with Rev. Craig Zandi officiating and burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Auburn. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.
Martin Rudolph Erickson was born on November 4, 1926 in Randolph, Nebraska to Rudolph and Martha (Hendrickson) Erickson. On May 25, 1944 he married Leola Hight and together they celebrated 55 years of marriage. Martin owned and operated Martin’s Welding in Auburn since 1955. In 1956 he became a member of the Auburn Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief from 1976-1978 and achieved an Honorable Lifetime membership for 50 years of service. He also served on the Auburn City Council for 20 years and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn.
Martin is survived by his children Earl (Lois) Erickson of Miami, FL, Barb Thompson of Ankeny, Mike (Nikki) Erickson of Tama, and Janelle King of Auburn, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and sisters Marjorie Rinkel of Norfolk, NE, and ModenePelchat of Sioux City, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leola in 1999, daughter Vicki Erickson, son-in-law Larry Thompson, and brothers Kenneth and Russell Erickson.
