Eight each for Lynx, Wildcats

STORY CITY – North Central Conference foes Webster City and Humboldt went one-two in a Class 2A sectional meet on Saturday.

The Lynx (232 points) and Wildcats (219) both advanced to the regional dual tournament on Tuesday. Pairings will be released on Sunday.

Webster City will host the district meet, that will entertain wrestlers from the Story City and Clear Lake sectionals.

Webster City advanced eight wrestlers and Humboldt pushed eight through as well.

The two teams met five times in the championship round and the Lynx went 4-1 in those matches.

Webster City had seven champions and one runner up.

The marquee match ups of the day were at 170 pounds and 195 pounds.

In the 170-pound final between seventh-ranked Connor Larson of Webster City and No. 5 Nikko Wheeler of Humboldt.

Wheeler denied Larson his fourth North Central Conference championship two weeks ago, but Larson came out on top with a 13-4 major decision.

Both wrestlers advanced.

Another rematch of NCC finals turned around happened at 195 pounds.

Humboldt’s Reed Dreyer beat Webster City’s Dylan Fielder in the NCC final, but on Saturday Fielder turned the tide.

Fielder earned a tight 8-5 decision and both will wrestlers will compete in districts.

Webster City’s Freddie Seeley and Humboldt’s Zane Russell meet in the 120-pound final. Seeley picked up a 14-4 major decision, but both advanced to districts.

Also winning titles for the Lynx were Jacob Powers (145), Tanner Hild (152), Alex Oswald (160), Brandon Patton (182) and Dylan Fielder (195).

Patton pinned Humboldt’s Adam Mickelson in the finals, as both wrestlers pushed through to districts.

Webster City’s Gavin Dinsdale lost to Humboldt’s Dylan Hendricks in the 285 pound championship. Hendricks pinned Dinsdale in 3:59.

Dinsdale fought back with a fall in the wrestle back match.

Winning sectional titles for the Wildcats were Levi Sawyer (106) and Mike Madsen (138).

Advancing as arunner up was Jake Miller (132).

Cowboys push 11 through to districts

BRITT – The Clarion-Goldfield wrestling team pushed 11 qualifiers through to districts.

The Cowboys scored 271 team points to and advanced to a Class 1A regional dual pairing on Tuesday. The pairing will be released on Sunday. Lake Mills (186) finished second and will also advance to regional duals.

The Cowboys will host the district meet next week at noon. Qualifiers from the St. Edmond and Britt district will compete.

Clarion-Goldfield crowned six sectional champions. Claiming gold were twin brothers Justin Portillo (106) and Josh Portillo (113), Joel Haberman (126), Tayler Lehman (138), Ryan Anderson (182) and Caleb Hanson (220).

Justin Portillo, who is ranked second, knocked off Mason City Newman’s fourth-ranked Jeremiah Colon in the finals.

Finishing second and still advancing were Lucas Lienemann (120), Brady Brott (145), Logan Nelson (152), Jordan Lee (170) and Mitch Gambrill (285).

Gambrill, who is ranked fourth, had an injury default in the championship.

Bulldogs advance six

CLEAR LAKE – Algona crowned four sectional champions and had two runner ups advance to the district meet.

The Bulldogs (2A) finished third as a team, but will send six wrestlers to their district at Webster City. Wrestlers from the Story City and Clear Lake sectional will compete.

Winning titles for the Bulldogs were Austin Long (145), Korey Kuecker (152), Tyler Frideres (170) and Joe Teague (182).

Teague, who is rated second, pinned Clear Lake’s sixth-ranked Connor Nosbisch in the finals.

Finishing second was Josh Strohman (160) and Jeff Buchanan (195).

Both Strohman and Buchanan wrestled back to win their true second matches.

Lundgren advances for Emmetsburg

EMMETSBURG – Tanner Lundgren was the only Emmetsburg wrestler to advance to the Class 1A district meet.

Lundgren (106) finished second, losing to Skylar Solko of Alta-Aurelia in the finals.
