MANSON – Vernon E. Peters, 81, died at his home in Manson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manson with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson on Friday, Jan. 31 from 4 until 7 p.m.

Vern is survived by his daughter Deborah Baker of Cherokee, IA; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister Adella Labudovich of Chesapeake, VA; sister-in-law Marlys Peters of Manson, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Carol in 2002; brothers William and Edwin; and grandson Phillip Joseph.

Vernon Earl Peters was born on Nov. 6, 1932, on a farm near Palmer, IA, the son of William and Annie Peters. He attended country schools near Palmer, and later received his G.E.D. He was united in marriage with Carol Jean Walstrom at Blue Earth, MN, on Sept. 17, 1951. At the time of their marriage he was working at the gypsum mills in Fort Dodge. He later held several different jobs, before beginning his work in the Fort Dodge Schools doing maintenance work, where he was employed for 17 years, retiring in 1994.
