Triton women rally to win

DES MONIES – The 10th-ranked Iowa Central women’s basketball team used a big second half to pull out an 87-82 victory over DMACC on Wednesday night.

The Tritons (17-2 overall, 6-1 ICCAC) took the lead with about seven minutes remaining in the second half and held on for the victory.

“We had terrible foul trouble,” said Iowa Central head coach Craig Carlson. “After (Lydia) Harvey fouled out, we moved the ball extremely well and shared the ball. We hit some clutch shots and Koyamainavure had an outstanding game.”

Katie Dentlinger led the Tritons with 23 points. Babaye Oja had 16 and Miliakere Koyamainavure had 16.

St. Edmond graduate Theresa Doyle added 10.

Koyamainavure also had eight rebounds and seven assists.

“Doyle played a tremendous floor game,” Carlson said. “She handled their pressure and the key to the game was to be able to convert.

“We did a good job defensively on (Carlee) Schuhmacher, who is going to North Carolina State.”

South Hamilton graduate Taryn Wicks led DMACC with 20 points. Prairie Valley graduate Chelsea Anderson had four for the Bears.

The Tritons are back in action on Saturday when they travel to face No. 2 NIACC. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
