Herzberg breaks bone in elbow
The sixth-ranked Manson Northwest Webster girls will be without the services of all-starter Ellie Herzberg.
Herzberg, who earned first team all-state honors as a junior, suffered a broken bone in her elbow on her left arm, in her first contest back against OA-BCIG after the Christmas Break.
The Northern Iowa recruit is currently leading Class 2A in scoring and is fourth in the state at 25.6 points per game. She has 205 points in eight games.
She has 1,542 career points and has a career average of 19.5 per game.
Head coach Bret Larson isn’t quite sure of the exact timetable of a return.
“We’re not really sure right now,” Larson said. “We’re hoping that she could be back by tournament time.”
The Cougars, who were ranked as high as No. 3 this season, won their first six games before dropping a contest to top-ranked Newell-Fonda (Class 1A).
They lost on Tuesday night to Pocahontas Area.
Manson Northwest Webster is averaging 66 points per contest.
ALGONA – The Algona girls earned a 48-43 victory over Spencer here Monday night.
Tangy Wiseman posted 25 points, including five three-pointers, in the win.

Indians beat Cougars
MANSON – The Pocahontas Area girls knocked off Manson Northwest Webster 56-47 on Tuesday night.
Elle Ruffridge paced the Indians (10-2 overall) with 19 points. Faith Meyer had 11 and Hannah Stafford added 10 points.
Faith Troshynski paced the Cougars (9-2) with 11 points. Jocelyn Keller pitched in with 10.

No. 1 Mustangs cruise
SIOUX RAPIDS – The top-ranked (Class 1A) Newell-Fonda girls rolled past Sioux Central by a 59-26 final Tuesday night.
Claudia Larsen scored 13 points for the defending state runner-up Mustangs (11-1 overall), who won their third straight game.
Renee Maneman, Brianna Wells, Maddi Morenz, Hailey Falline and Abby Christensen each added eight points for Newell-Fonda.
