More homes planned for Orchard Glen

More homes would be added to a northern Fort Dodge neighborhood under a proposal introduced Tuesday.

The plan would create lots for 21 more houses in the Orchard Glen neighborhood, according to Carissa Miller, the associate city planner.

A new street named Dale Court would be created, while 20th Avenue North and North 20th Street would be extended. The proposal also includes a 10-foot wide concrete path that would link to the Fort Dodge Nature Trail.

Construction could start this summer or fall, according to information presented to the city’s Plan and Zoning Commission.

Commission members took no action on the proposal. The city’s planning staff will work with representatives of Orchard Glen LLC, the firm which owns the property, and present a proposal for commission action at a later date.

In other business, the commission recommended rezoning a portion of the property at 1431 Ave. B from conservation status to single family residential status. The house there was built in 1920, before the current zoning law was in place.

That recommendation now goes to the City Council, which will make the final decision.

Also on Monday, the commission members elected Steve Kersten as chairman and Mike Doyle as vice chairman.
