FD girls fall flat at Ankeny
ANKENY – The Fort Dodge girls basketball squad struggled to find any consistency on the offensive end of the court and dropped a disappointing 48-31 decision to Ankeny on Friday night.
The Dodgers (4-4 overall), who had won three consecutive games to start the season, have now dropped three straight.
The Hawkettes (2-6), meanwhile, picked up just their second victory of the year by tying their season-high scoring output.
“We didn’t shoot the ball well at all,” said Fort Dodge head coach Scott Timmerman. “We were at just 27 percent from two-point range and 30 percent from three.
“We couldn’t connect on anything.”
Junior Lani Van Zyl led the Dodgers with nine points, while seniors Lexi Astor and Tiana Mericle had seven points each.
Ankeny was led by Jordan Enga (11) and Kelsey Yarrow (10). Olivia Parker and Lindsey Dee contributed nine points each.
“They did a good job of getting the ball to the basket, and they also hit some big threes,” Timmerman said. “They made more of the easy shots and also converted at the line.
“They out-hustled us to loose balls. We just came out very flat and and weren’t boxing out.”
The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Johnston in a girl/boy doubleheader. The girls are set to tip at 6:15 p.m.
