Dorothy Mae Huseman, 83, of Fort Dodge, died December 30, 2013 at the Avoca Nursing Home, Avoca, Iowa.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel in Fort Dodge. Interment will follow at a later date in Alta, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Minden Volunteer Fire and Rescue, 205 Main Street, Minden, Iowa 51553.

Dorothy is survived by her son Brad and his wife Angie and granddaughter Savanna Mae of Minden, Iowa. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Shirley Andersen of Cherokee, Dutch Huseman and his wife Joyce, of Fort Dodge and Faye Peterson of Alta. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel ‘Dob’ Huseman, her parents, Dode and Wayne Anderson and brother, Dick Anderson, brothers-in-law, Merle (Moose) Huseman, Forrest Hausman, sisters-in-law, Iona Hausman, Lola Radke, and Peggy Huseman.

Dorothy was born December 19, 1930 at Alta, Iowa. She graduated from Alta High School and attended and graduated from Iowa Teacher’s College, which later became known as the University of Northern Iowa. On June 6, 1960, she was married to Darrel Huseman. They moved to Fort Dodge where Dorothy taught 4th grade at Duncombe Elementary School until her retirement.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, playing games on her iPad and computer, watching football and basketball games and keeping in touch with all of her buddies from her teaching days. Most recently, Dorothy’s favorite thing to do was taking road trips with Angie’s mother, Judy, to visit Brad, Angie, and Savanna and watch Savanna in her athletic and musical competitions. Dorothy lived with Brad and his family a couple months this fall and became great friends with their dogs, Lily Mae and especially, Cadillac.

Dorothy will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
