FDSH holds alumni tourney
Saturday’s third annual Fort Dodge Senior High Alumni Tournament proved to be another success.
Nearly 70 former Dodger basketball players participated in the co-ed event, which was once again coordinated by 1998 FDSH graduate Ryan Maehl. Ex-Fort Dodge players from across the country returned to their old stomping grounds to lace up their shoes.
“It went great,” said Maehl, a current Dodger girls assistant who was an all-state player during his senior season. “Everyone had a lot of fun, and sportsmanship was at a premium. For us on the girls basketball side, this tournament is a huge plus as a once-a-year fundraiser. I know our players always look forward to it.”
Willie Williams, Darreus Caston, Julian Dismute, Jericho Habben, Stevie Clayton, Jalen Mosley and Jontel Clayton comprised the men’s championship roster, which featured players from the graduating classes of 2002, ’09 and ’11.
After winning last year’s title, the 2001-03 team of Dan Scott, Colin Panzi, Blake Utley, Ryan Kinseth, Brandon Kinseth, Kevin Ault, Nick Pederson, Chris Douglas, Reino Bodady and Justin Rogers settled for runner-up honors yesterday.
Three other squads rounded out the men’s field, while a total of 17 players were in action in the women’s division.
“One thing I hear every year is the parents of the former players talking about how they haven’t been back to see all the renovations to the lunch room and the high school,” Maehl said. “I know a lot of people migrate, so it would really be a plus if we could keep some of those fans that come back when we go to road games.
“We would love to build up this tournament even more, but the biggest thing is getting the word out. I want to thank all the players that played in it, along with the volunteers and our sponsors Central Iowa Distributing and Access Audio. An event like this really helps bring out Fort Dodge Dodger pride.”
Approximately $1,500 was raised by the Dodger girls basketball program during Saturday’s Fort Dodge Senior High Alumni Tournament.
