Marlys Ann (Messerly) Traster, 67, of Moorland, peacefully entered heaven’s gates on Christmas Eve of 2013 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, after a long,well-fought battle with complications from heart surgery.

A celebration of her life and her birthday will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at her church, the United Congregational Church in Moorland. The celebration will begin at 2pm.

Marlys was born on January 5, 1946, to Franklin and Betty Messerly of Moorland. She graduated from Gowrie High School in 1964. She married Ron Lundberg with whom she had four children (Lisa, Dan, John, and Tim). Marlys and Ron later divorced but remained lifelong friends. She later married Will Traster. She lived in Moorland her entire life and was dedicated to her community, serving on the Fire Board and City Council.

Marlys was dedicated to her children and grandchildren. Always supportive, she was their greatest cheerleader, ever present at recitals, games, and performances.

Marlys loved doing crafts, especially wedding flowers and Christmas decor. She loved to share her creations with others and brighten their day. She was one of those rare people who are the first to give and the last to need she was a selfless and caring soul. Even though she was small in stature, she was big in heart. Marlys proved over and over again that you don’t have to be wealthy to give generously. Her simple, sweet warmth and endlessly caring nature touched countless lives, far more than she realized. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kyle. She is survived by her parents, Franklin and Betty and her brothers Franklin (Elaine) and Keith Messerly; her husband, Will; her children and their spouses/significant others Lisa (Dan), Dan (Jo), John (Gayle) and Tim (Marcy); her 21 grandchildren: Codey, Zach, Cassie, Hope, Jasmine, Grace, Ben, Maisey, Lainey, Evie, and Elijah Ellsbury (Lisa); Lacey, Koltan, Kaelan, and Madison Lundberg (Dan); Lindsey and Brittany Lundberg (John); Mariah, Jacob and Carly Lundberg (Tim); and one great-grandchild, Saige (Lacey).
