Pocahontas buys new fire truck

POCAHONTAS – The volunteer Fire Department in Pocahontas will have a new pumper by the end of next year.

The City Council recently approved the purchase of the truck from Toyne Inc., of Breda, for $244,852.

City Administrator Robert Donahoo said the truck will be able to pump 1,250 gallons of water a minute. He added that it will carry 1,000 gallons of water.

Donahoo said it will replace a truck bought in 1987.

He said the truck will be paid for with a combination of property tax revenue and donations generated through a planned fundraising campaign.
