Lynx sweep triangular
ALGONA – Competing against a pair of North Central Conference programs, the Fort Dodge wrestling team settled for a split here on Thursday night.
After dropping a 39-29 decision to Webster City, the Dodgers (2-3 overall) rebounded with a 36-30 victory over homestanding Algona.
“We continue to make a lot of mistakes, and we need to get better with our technical drilling stuff,” said FDSH head coach Bobby Thompson. “Our kids just need to be willing to make some changes.
“Against Webster City, we couldn’t take advantage and lost some key matches when we were winning.”
No. 4 (Class 3A) Triston Lara (106), third-ranked Erik Birnbaum (113), Tim Gailey (120) and Cole Detmering (126) all earned two wins for Fort Dodge. Keenan Cook (132), Nic Tracy (138), No. 9 Jonah Egli (152), seventh-ranked Sam Cook (182) and Carlos Rocha (285) each prevailed once for the Dodgers.
“I thought some of our young kids looked good,” Thompson said. “Tim Gailey, a JV wrestler, stepped up and got two varsity wins. Keenan Cook and Nic Tracy also got their first varsity wins.”
In the other dual of the evening, the Lynx topped Algona by a 43-24 final.
Tanner Hoveland (132), Ryan Ferrari (138), Jacob Powers (145), Alex Oswald (160), No. 5 (2A) Dylan Fielder (195) Gustavo Gasca (220) and Gavin Dinsdale (285) all recorded a pair of triumphs for Webster City (8-2).
For the Bulldogs (1-4), Korey Kuecker (152), ninth-ranked (2A) Tyler Frideres (170) and No. 2 Joe Teague (182) collected two wins apiece.
On the junior varsity side, Fort Dodge also received victories from Levi Trenary, Colton Hogan and Nic Ganzeveld.
Next action for the Dodgers is Saturday when they host their own 40th annual Don Miller Invitational. Start time is set for 10 a.m.
