MANSON – James “Jim” Gronewold, 71, died at the Pocahontas Community Hospital on Sat. Dec. 14, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tues. Dec. 17 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manson with burial in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Mon. from 4 until 7 p.m. at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson.

Jim was born on Oct. 8, 1942, at Ft. Dodge, IA, the son of Gerd and Marie (Meyer) Gronewold. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1961, and helped his Dad with farming until being drafted into the U. S. Army in Sept. of 1966. During his time in the service he spent one year in Vietnam where he helped to build bridges and airstrips. Upon his return from the service he was united in marriage with Marilyn Busse on March 29, 1969 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ft. Dodge, and, together, they have farmed for their entire married life.

Jim is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter Linda (Joe) Porter of Des Moines; son Brian of Manson, IA; and two grandchildren; sisters Violet Bryant of Monticello, FL, and Bev (Dennis) Buenting of Manson, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
