Veda Peterson, 86, of Fort Dodge passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Bickford Living in Fort Dodge. Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Erling M. Shultz officiating. Burial will be in the Carpenter Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of service Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
Veda Lois Irving was born to Walter and Lois (Askren) Irving on March 22, 1927. Veda grew up in the Chariton area and graduated from Melcher High School Veda married Donald Peterson, the love of her life, on July 16, 1948 and moved to Germany to join Donald while he was in the Army. They moved back to Iowa in 1954 where they made their home in Fort Dodge. Veda was a homemaker and well known by family for her homemade bread and pies. In 1965, she became a well-known seamstress working from her home. In September 2012, due to ill health she moved to Bickford Living in Fort Dodge.
Veda is survived by her children, Kathy (Mike) Alcazar of Fort Dodge, Darwin (Cheryl) Peterson of Bode and Dean (Pat) Peterson of Madrid; five grandsons, David Alcazar, Dan Alcazar, Jared Peterson, Justin Peterson and Joseph Peterson; a brother, Sam Irving and two sisters, Della Storm and Violet Greenslade. Those that have gone before and are waiting. Her husband, Donald Peterson, a grandson, Aaron Alcazar, six brothers and one sister.
The family would like to thank Bickford Living for all the love and care they have given Veda.
Memorials will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association of Iowa.
