Selma H. Halverson, 91, of Fort Dodge, died peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Friendship Haven.

A service honoring Selma’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Darryl Landsverk officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum. The visitation is from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Selma H. (Licht) Halverson was the oldest of six children born to Adolph and Helen (Sindlinger) Licht on September 9, 1922, in Fort Dodge. She was united in marriage to Wilfred M. Halverson on April 8, 1941 in Badger, Iowa. They moved to Colorado, then New Mexico, returning to Badger in the late 1980s. No children were born to this union but they were blessed with many close and dear friends.

Selma was a member of Badger Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Lioness group. In earlier years she enjoyed crafts and working with stone jewelry. In recent years she enjoyed her exercise class and volunteer work at Friendship Haven and Adult Day Care.

Preceding her in death was her husband Wilfred, parents Adolph and Helen Licht, one sister Marian Julius, and brothers, Elmer, Bertwin, Hilbert and Melvin Licht. Selma is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends and neighbors she met throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Unity Point Hospice (Fort Dodge) or to Selma’s family, Dennis & Marlene Julius at 2264 W. 15th St. S, Newton, IA, 50208 for charitable contribution in Selma’s name.
