Ben F. Guthrie, 74, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, November 15, 2013, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

A service honoring Ben’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Snook officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The visitation is 1:00 p.m. until service time on Monday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

Ben is survived by his sister-in-law Judy Brandt; brother-in-law Morrie Brandt; sister-in-law Dorothy O’Brian; and a brother-in-law; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary and his step-daughter Annie.

Ben F. Guthrie, the son of Ben P. and Leona M. (Murphy) Guthrie, was born July 4, 1939, in Fort Dodge. On June 24, 1961, Ben was united in marriage to Mary Clausen at Elk Point, South Dakota. Ben was employed with Celotex and Avco New Idea, both for 23 years, as well as Hy-Vee for six years before retiring in 2002.

Ben was a member of the Moose Lodge since 1978. He was a three-time state champion horseshoe player and a long time district sports chairman. Ben enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with the boys, fishing and hunting.
