Presbyterian sets alternate gift fair
A Heifer Project Alternate Christmas Gift Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in the commons at First Presbyterian Church, 1111 Fifth Ave. N.
Honor a loved one with a gift of a starter farm animal for a needy family in a developing country like a hive of honey bees, a flock of ducks, a sheep, a goat, a water buffalo or a heifer. All contributions go directly to Heifer International.
Twenty dollars will buy a starter flock of 30 chicks. Fifty percent of the people in Haiti live on less than $1 a day and 15 percent of the people in Guatemala live on less than a $1 a day; a flock of chickens represents three weeks of their income. Twenty-five percent of the children in Haiti are malnourished, while 50 percent of the children in Guatemala are malnourished. A hen can lay up to 300 eggs a year; 15 hens can lay up to 4,500 eggs a year, and a flock will continue on over the years.
