ALGONA – James H. Hilbert became a resident of Good Samaritan Society, Algona, in October, 2013 and died there on Monday morning, November 11, 2013 at the age of 76.

Funeral is 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph, Iowa, with Father Victor Ramaeker officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, St. Joseph, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona is in charge of arrangements.

James Henry Hilbert was born June 14, 1937 at Irvington, Iowa to Frank and Frances (Geishecker) Hilbert. At a young age his family moved to the Geishecker family farm near LuVerne. He attended school at St. Joseph Catholic School in St. Joe graduating in 1955. After his graduation he began farming.

Jim was an avid sports fan, attending games and watching on television. He especially cheered for the Hawkeyes. He traveled to a few NASCAR races and enjoyed bus trips throughout the U.S. and even traveled overseas to Germany. Jim enjoyed driving into LuVerne to pick up his mail in the morning and have a cup of coffee with friends. His greatest enjoyment was farming, doing chores and feeding his cattle.

Jim was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Joe Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his sister, Catherine Krischel of Pocahontas, Iowa, sister-in-law, Donna Mae Hilbert of Algona, Iowa, 11 nieces and nephews, 25 great nieces and nephews and two great great nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gordon and brother-in-law Jerry Krischel.
