AHS musicians named to All-State

Two Algona High School musicians were selected through audition for membership in the Iowa Music Educators Association and the Iowa High School Music Association’s annual All-State Band and Chorus Oct. 26 in Storm Lake.

Emma Schmidt, clarinet (junior), was selected to perform in the 2013 Iowa All-State Orchestra.

Schmidt, who was selected for last year’s All-State Band, was the only student in the northwest site selected for the All-State Orchestra out of 31 auditioning clarinet students. Instrumentalists are assigned parts and given music for the All-State Orchestra after their successful auditions. They now have to learn that music in preparation for their chair placement auditions at the All-State Festival.

Rileigh McElroy, soprano (junior), was selected to perform in the 2013 Iowa All-State Chorus. McElroy will be participating in the chorus for the first time. All-State Chorus music is available at the end of July for vocal students to begin preparation. Vocal students audition in ensembles of up to four members and are selected individually.

The 67th annual All-State Music Festival will be held Nov. 21-23 in Ames. The All-State Festival Concert will be presented to the public at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 in Hilton Coliseum on the Iowa State University campus.
