Flattery wins new Ward 3 term
Fort Dodge City Councilman Dave Flattery easily won another term in office by trouncing challenger Richard Higgins in Tuesday’s voting in Ward 3.
Flattery won 894 votes or 77.54 percent, according to election results released Tuesday night by the Webster County auditor’s office.
Higgins won 257 votes, or 22.29 percent.
Flattery secured his second term representing Ward 3, which is the northeast part of the city. But in January he will be starting his third term on the council, because he served as an at-large councilman before winning the Ward 3 seat in 2011.
He called Tuesday’s election results ”pretty exciting.”
”I think there’s a mandate to move this city forward,” he said. ”I think the crosstown connector is one thing that get taken off the shelf, is dusted off and and advances.”
He called the crosstown connector project, which will make First Avenue South a two-way street for its entire length, ”the major issue” of the election.
Higgins is opposed to the crosstown connector.
”I just think the other people just spoke out,” he said. ”I guess they want the downtown connector.”
”It was a good race and the better man won,” he added.
