Dodger volleyball loses in regionals
CHARLES?CITY -?The Fort Dodge volleyball team’s season came to an end on Thursday night.
The Dodgers lost in three games to defending state champion Charles City, 25-12, 25-10, 25-13.
The Comets are coached by Fort Dodge graduate Matt Johnson.
Maddie Egli had seven kills, five assists and was 10-for-10 serving.
Kari Grindberg had five digs, Lexi Astor and Mackenzie Elsbecker had four each.
“This group has been close to my heart and I care a lot for these girls,” said Fort Dodge head coach Tonia Burrell. “They’ve shown some improvement from the start of the year.
“It’s tough facing the state champions and we came out and played hard.”
Burrell will have to replace 12 Dodger seniors next year.
Graduating for Fort Dodge are, Astor, Egli, Grindberg, Ashley Altman, Tiana Mericle, Jamie Harmon, Jessica Krause, Hannah Hughes, Taylor Shirbroun, Marcy Weinzetl, Maci Knutson, Allison Birnbaum and Rachel Herrington.
“We are losing a lot of girls,” Burrell said. “But Lexi, Ashley and Tiana played well, hitting the ball.
“Kari served the ball well and was diving all over the place.”
