First United Methodist rummage and bake sale succeeds
To the editor:
“Oh, the places that our donations went.”
Thank you to everyone who helped us to achieve our goal of raising money for missions at our First United Methodist fall rummage and bake sale. All proceeds are used to support our national and international missionaries at Red Bird Mission, Kentucky and at Africa University, Zimbabwe, Africa, plus we are supporting a local member, Emily Moore, in her work with Navigators Campus Ministry at University of Vermont.
Not only do we raise money for our missions, the sale also benefits many other people. We shared clothing, furniture, and household goods with 17 organizations: Almost Home, Boy Scout Troop No. 9, Cana, Community Health, D/SAOC, First Baptist Clothes Closet, Fort Dodge Public Library, Goodwill Industries, Head Start, Iowa Retired School Personnel, IOWAY – Haiti Lutheran Mission Trip, Lord’s Cupboard, Operation Christmas, PICA, Share What You Wear (Iowa Central Community College), Village General Store and YWCA.
Our semiannual church rummage sale would not be a success without the help and support of many people. Thank you to: The Messenger who helped promote the sale with ads, articles, the community calendar, and “Go and Do” listing, the many people who donated items, made delicious baked items, and the 71 volunteers who helped with the sale and the people who support our missions by purchasing items
It was a great week with wonderful involvement of our church and the community, which made this event a success. See you in the spring for our next sale.
