Responds to China deal

To the editor:

Are we jumping the gun? A recent newspaper headline read “Chinese delegation signs $1 billion deals with Iowa.” A grain bin supplier hopes to sell bins and dryers to China. A large financial company says their deals with China will mean jobs and business investments in both China and Iowa.

On the other hand, we have read recently of contaminated baby food of different types and also pet food that has killed some dogs, all made in China. Air quality in China must be getting worse. It was reported that in one of the large cities in China the pollution is like a heavy fog caused by burning coal.

I just hope we are doing all we can to help China produce better food for our children and pets and that we can help them improve their air quality and not be accused of being a part of the problem.
