Tritons host ‘Dig Pink’ night

The Iowa Central volleyball team was downed by 15th-ranked (NJCAA Div. II) Des Moines Area in three straight games on “Dig Pink Night” here Wednesday at Hodges Fieldhouse.

Scores were 25-9, 25-17 and 25-19.

“DMACC is at the top of our conference and really jumped on us early,” said ICCC head coach Fredrick Wagner. “They were aggressive in their serving and had a strong attack.

“It took a while to get our feet under us, and once we did, it was too little, too late.”

Kaila Hurley and Sarah Groff each tallied six kills and one assist block for the Tritons (16-18 overall, 5-3 in the ICCAC).

With the victory, the Bears improved to 25-8 and 7-1 on the season.

DMACC is coached by Patty Harrison, who helped start the program at Iowa Central back in 1983. Kaitlynn Vought (Humboldt) and Kenzie Grimm (West Bend-Mallard) both play regularly for the Bears.

The Tritons players all wore pink uniforms on Wednesday, with proceeds from the match going to help breast cancer awareness.

“Pinkout Night went well,” Wagner said. “The girls went into the crowd and were able to raise over 300 dollars.”

Iowa Central returns to the court Friday at No. 7 (Div. I) Iowa Western (34-3). Start time is set for 7 p.m. in Council Bluffs.
